Who Is to Bell the Cat?
Once upon a time, the mice in a large house were living in constant fear of a fierce cat. Every day, the cat would silently sneak up and catch one or two mice. The mice were terrified and didn’t know how to stop the cat.
One day, they held a meeting to find a solution. After much discussion, a young mouse stood up and said, “I have a great idea! Let’s hang a bell around the cat’s neck. That way, we’ll hear it coming and have time to escape.”
All the mice cheered. “Wonderful idea!” they said. They were excited that they had finally found a way to stay safe.
But then, an old wise mouse asked, “Yes, but who will bell the cat?”
The room fell silent. Each mouse looked at the other, but none dared to volunteer. One by one, they turned away, knowing that the idea, while clever, was too dangerous to carry out.
In the end, the cat continued to hunt the mice, and they learned an important lesson.
